Afro Nation, the world’s biggest Afrobeats festival, is returning to Detroit for its second year, taking over Bedrock’s Douglass Site this Saturday and Sunday. Headlined by hip-hop legend Lil Wayne and Afrobeats stars Rema and Asake, the festival promises a weekend filled with electrifying performances and cultural celebration.

Since its inception in Portugal in 2019, Afro Nation has become a global platform for Afrobeats artists, with the festival traveling around the world. This year, Detroit is the only U.S. stop on the Afro Nation circuit, featuring around 40 artists, including the Scorpion Kings, King Promise,Musa Keys, Adekunle Gold, Uncle Waffles, and several DJs.

Afro Nation’s communications and social media manager, Esosa Uddoh, shared that the overwhelming response from Detroit last year made the decision to return a natural one. “The city really welcomed us, so it felt like a no-brainer to come back,” Uddoh said.

The festival will feature a Piano People stage dedicated to Amapiano, a popular South African music genre. While Afrobeats remains the focus, the festival will also showcase R&B, dancehall, hip-hop, and more. Afro Nation’s director, Koram, emphasized that there’s something for everyone, whether you’re a core Afrobeats lover or a fan of dancehall and bashment.

Beyond music, Afro Nation aims to uplift and inspire the Black community through world-class performances, food, fashion, and a celebration of African culture and identity. “The festival experience helps merge cultures and brings joy within the community,” said Smade, Afro Nation’s co-founder. “It’s a celebration of who we are, our identity, and the traditions that bring us together.”
